Finally — A Beer Brewed Just For Athletes

Here’s some good news for the BeerFit community:

While we’ve been bragging about the health benefits of beer for quite some time now, one company is taking our wishes (and our need for great recovery beers) to heart — and to the next level.

Muscle Food, an online nutrition store based in the UK, recently uncapped ‘Barbell Brew,’ a low-carb, high-protein and gluten-free beverage that, yes, really is beer. With 85 percent less carbs than regular beer, Muscle Food promises this booze is all natural and packed with protein. Featuring 21.8 grams, that’s about 95 percent more protein than your standard Miller Lite!

If you’re still questioning how this brew makes the perfect post-race beer beyond the protein aspect, know this: One 12-oz bottle has just 92 calories. But with a 3.6 percent ABV, it’ll still take your runner’s high to the next level. And that’s what really matters, isn’t it?

Well, aside from taste.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had the chance to try it yet. But according to the brand page, Barbell Brew is a thirst-quenching beverage that boasts a ‘tantalisingly light’ golden color while featuring notes of tropical fruits and light caramel. Apparently, the protein provides a ‘unique sweetness’ to the hops — which sounds pretty good to us.

We don’t know about you, but we’re dying to get our hands around a cold one of these bad boys after a hard workout. Or during our next beer mile.

Would you try it? Let us know in the comments!
